SoundUnit: a public art commission.

Project partners: Chichester District Council, Rolls Royce, University of Chichester.

Project funders: Rolls Royce trough a Section 106 agreement.

In April 2007 I was awarded the commission to create a public art sculpture for the entrance to ‘artOne’, the fine art building of the University of Chichester. The widely publicised commission had an open selection process with a selection panel made up of:

* Bruce Williams – sculptor
* Francis Lord – Public Arts consultan.
* Anne Bone, Chichester District Council, Arts and Heritage Development Manager .
* Steve McDade, Head of Fine Art, University of Chichester
* Tim Sandys-Renton, Project Manager and Senior Lecturer. University of Chichester
* Tad Kowal – student representative. University of Chichester

There are many people involved, on different levels and from different organisations and communication is vital. What better than a blog to keep everyone up to date.
It also serves as a medium for documenting and archiving this project. Documents and archives in art has its own field as art medium, which is one avenue I would like to explore with the students who will get involved.
And finally it also becomes a space for discussion, reaching out to the wider world and placing this work in context.
